Life can be very frustrating, especially when you are walking according to God’s plan and will for your life but have nothing to show for it. Sometimes, the enemy is fighting against your success; other times, you may be in a waiting season because there is seed, time (the waiting season), and harvest in the kingdom of God.
And for some of us, this transition season is where God wants to rebuild our lives. We are not meant to sit by and do nothing as we wait for the new thing. We are to grow and prepare for what lies ahead.
Your heavenly Father wants you to have a fresh start in life. But you have to submit to His plan and process in this season. You have to rebuild your life His way even when it doesn’t make sense to the rest of the world.
You will face opposition as you start obeying God.
Why?
Satan doesn’t want you to break free from the systems that have already been set in place. He wants you to continue bowing down to the ‘Egyptians’ that he has set over you. So he will do everything and anything to block you from walking into the new thing that God has prepared for you.
Some of you know exactly what I am talking about because this is what you have been experiencing these past years. You have been betrayed, slandered, abused, and rejected. And you’re totally broken because of all this. You don’t understand why things have gone from bad to worse.
But God says, “I am restoring and vindicating you.”
The Egyptians you see today, you will see them no more.
So don’t stay down. Get up and try again!
Arise and shine, for the light has come and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you (Isaiah 60:1). This is the time and season that God wants you to get up from your great depression and do what He has been teaching you in the secret place.
Why God wants to Rebuild you
God is doing a New Thing
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
Change forces us to get out of our comfort zones. It requires us to be brave and to lean fully on God because we don’t know where we are going. And that can be challenging. That’s why most of us tend to resist change at first.
But here is the thing:
God is doing a new thing not just in our personal lives but in the world, and He is preparing us in different ways and seasons so that we can align with the new thing He is doing on earth.
Rejecting the new thing God is doing in your life right now means that you’re going to struggle in the near future because you will not be able to handle the new thing. The earlier we accept God’s process, the better it will be for all of us. Remember, God is not against you; He is for you.
Your heavenly Father has great plans for you.
To Align your Life with His Plans and Purposes for you
According to Webster’s Dictionary, the word “rebuild” means to make extensive repairs to or to reconstruct. It can also be defined as restoring to a previous state.
The Bible says,
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:16
But most of us are not living the way God intends for us to live. We have settled for less than God’s best. That is why things seem to be falling apart. We need to be rebuilt so that we can function and live according to the original blueprint of our lives.
Rebuilding is not erasing the past.
It is about learning from our past experiences and aligning our lives with God’s will and original plans for us so that we can become better.
A Call to Rebuild Your Life
To succeed in the rebuilding process, you need to understand God’s heart for rebuilding you. If you don’t, the enemy will mislead you.
Think about where you are and what you’re doing. Is it according to God’s will for your life? It’s time to consider your ways, according to Haggai 1:5. If your life is not in line with God’s plans, turn back to God and allow Him to rebuild you.
This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the Lord. Haggai 1:7-8
It is good to read the whole of Haggai 1 to understand the whole concept of rebuilding the house of God. So I recommend that you spend time reading this chapter so that the Holy Spirit can help you understand the new thing that God is doing in your life.
But for the sake of this teaching, I’d like us to focus on verses 7 and 8, where the Lord Almighty says, “Give careful thought to your ways.” In essence, we need to think about what we do and why we do it, and this is not limited to spiritual life; it’s also in our finances, relationships, businesses, workplaces, families, and church.
We need to think about what we do and why we do it and then ask ourselves, Am I getting the results that I have envisioned, and are those results according to God’s will for my life?
Are you living a life that is pleasing to God with all that you’re busy doing?
Are you seeking first the kingdom of God, or are you just doing things for the sake of it or because that’s what you’ve been taught? In verse 8, we are told to go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house so that I might take pleasure in it and be honored, says the Lord.
Now, while Prophet Haggai is talking about a physical temple, in this dispensation we are the temple of God, and as such, God wants to rebuild our lives. As co-creators with God, we need to do this with Him. Our Father won’t impose Himself on us. We need to submit to Him fully.
This is not a time for you to do things the way you’ve always done them or were taught. This is a time to submit to God fully and allow Him to teach you the new thing.
Will you do that?
Signs you need to Rebuild your Life
You feel Empty Inside
Most of us have been taught to go to school, get a job or start a business, get married, have a family, make a lot of money, and then have a spiritual life that is usually separate from every other area of our lives. So we’ve been living in this cycle because that is what we have been taught. That is what we have grown up around and all we know.
Sadly:
Some of us look so accomplished in life, but we are crushing inwardly because what we have done and attained over time is outside God’s will for our lives.
People admire us; some are trying to emulate us, but deep down, we wish they would not because we are empty on the inside.
You’re engaged in Unfruitful Ventures
Haggai 1:6-7
You have planted much but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.
Some of us are trying everything and anything and putting in so much effort, yet we have nothing to show for it. We are so busy, yet we are not bearing fruit, nor are we living an abundant life.
Yes, you may have the cars, the money, the family, and all that, but that does not mean that you’re living in a place of abundance. Deep down, you feel like something is wrong somewhere. And we are wondering what’s going on. Some of us think that the devil is fighting us, so we are binding, rebuking, and fasting, but nothing seems to be working.
Yes, maybe it is the devil, or maybe you’re not following the path or blueprint God has laid out for you even though you’re doing what God told you to do.
Stop copying others or following the system of the world, and do exactly what God said and how He said you should do it.
Doors keep closing
Could it be that God has tried time and again to get your attention, but you have been rejecting His voice, and now, as a Father who cares about you, He is shutting other doors to get your full attention?
In this dispensation of grace, many people assume God cannot do some things, but the truth is that a good father will not watch their child mess up their life.
Maybe that is why some things are not working out in our lives. It is time to turn to God so that we know what He wants us to do because this is a season for rebuilding. The more you keep fighting or running away from God, the more you prolong the process and open the door for the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy your life.
Besides, what’s the point of engaging in unfruitful ventures year in and year out? You’ll only end up being frustrated.
God is with you
It is not easy to leave what you’ve always known and venture into something new that you’ve never even seen someone else do.
So it’s okay to be scared and doubtful. Just don’t stay in that state for too long.
Do not run away from the process just because it does not make sense. Do not reject the things that God is telling you to do.
For some of you, it may be that God is isolating you from your family or your community and taking you to a new place. For others, God may be asking you to lay down your job or business. Then some may have to step out of their comfort zone, which may mean getting out of that industry to do something completely new that they are not qualified for in terms of education and expertise.
God is with you, and you’re going to be successful.
The Bible tells us that Joseph was successful because God was with him. It wasn’t his expertise or qualifications that made him succeed, but the fact that God was with him.
And the same is true about you.
Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave this message of the Lord to the people: “I am with you,” declares the Lord. Haggai 1:13 (NIV)
Stop stalling or second-guessing what God has told you to do. Your family and loved ones may not support you. People will make fun of you. You will be persecuted. But you know who you believe. He told you not them what to do.
Arise, child of God!
You may never know who God made you to be or what you need until you take that step of faith and follow God’s guidance.
