Rediscovering the Heart of Christian Blogging

Christian blogging is more than making money online, gaining followers, or becoming famous. It is about spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Christian blogging is a ministry.

But truth be told:

These days, many bloggers, including Christian content creators, are drawn to online shiny objects like fame and trends. The Gospel is being watered down because some people are scared of losing followers. So they compromise the word of God or shy away from some topics because they don’t want to be canceled.

On the other hand, some bloggers come off as religious and in tune with the Bible but are using the word of God to judge and condemn other Christians who have been called into the online space. They use their platforms to call other people false but will not use those same platforms to share the Gospel.

As scribes of God, we are here to rightly divide the word of God.

Don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with making money, being famous, or calling out sin. But our motives as Christian creatives matter. We are called to build online communities that bring glory to God.

Which brings me to this question, and I believe all of us need to ask ourselves: Who are you serving with your Christian blog?

A Call to Repentance

If you have strayed from your calling as a faith blogger, you’re not alone.

Most of us started well with our blogging ministries. It was all about serving God and bringing glory to Him. But we have strayed away from our initial call for one reason or another. We no longer do what God has called us to do.

The good news:

God is calling His online scribes back to Him in this season. It is time for us Christian bloggers to turn back to God.

God is looking for bloggers who will serve Him in Spirit and truth. We are the end-time army called to draw the lost to the kingdom of God. Will you lay down the desires of your flesh and go after what God wants you to do with your blog?

Your Calling as a Christian Blogger

I understand that we all started our Christian blogging ministries for different reasons. Some of us received a direct call from God. While some of us started our blogs because we wanted to start a work-from-home business.

No matter your reason, God has led you to this post because He wants you to embrace blogging as a ministry. If you have been writing for any other reason than ministry, yet deep down you know God is leading you in a new or different direction, I encourage you to surrender to His leading. Turn back from what you know to what God has called you to do.

What God is Calling Christian Writers to do in this Season

Spread the Gospel

Our primary calling as Christian bloggers is to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.

Through our blog posts, we have the opportunity to share biblical teachings, personal testimonies, and insights that lead others to a deeper understanding of God’s love and salvation. We are called to communicate the Gospel’s transformative power and invite readers to experience a personal relationship with Jesus.

This doesn’t mean you cannot make money or run your blog as a business, but your ultimate goal should be spreading the Gospel. Other things will follow. Matthew 6:33

Follow the Leading of the Holy Spirit

We are living in a very critical time in history, and as such, we need to be serious about our Father’s business. Gone are the days when we blindly follow online experts. Not that it is bad to learn from others. But we have one expert who knows what we need to share and how we need to share it: the Holy Spirit.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26

We need to follow His counsel in everything we do. And this means that things may not make sense at times, but we need to trust God’s ways and process even if it contradicts what experts say.

An excellent example of what it means to choose God’s path is writing about unpopular topics, not being on every social media platform, or taking longer breaks from the internet when God tells you to.

Encourage and Inspire Others

We are called to uplift and inspire our readers by offering encouragement in their faith journeys.

We need to share stories of hope, provide practical guidance, and offer biblical perspectives. By doing this, we can help others navigate life’s challenges with faith and resilience.

Our words should inspire readers, reminding them of God’s faithfulness and empowering them to live out their calling.

Teaching and Discipleship

As Christian writers, we have a responsibility to teach and disciple our online audience. Through well-researched and biblically grounded content, we can provide guidance on various aspects of the Christian life, such as prayer, worship, discipleship, and ethical decision-making.

Our goal is to equip readers with the knowledge and tools they need to grow in their relationship with God and become mature disciples of Christ.

Building Community

God has allowed us to foster a sense of community among our readers.

Through comment sections, social media engagement, and collaboration with other bloggers, we can create spaces for dialogue, support, and fellowship.

Building connections and nurturing relationships online can help readers feel connected to a broader Christian community and encourage them in their faith.

Pray for Our Online Communities

Prayer is an essential part and strategy of our ministry, allowing us to touch the lives of individuals we may never meet in person.

As we sit before our writing desks, we can lift our online audience in prayer, seeking God’s blessings, guidance, and transformation in their lives. We can pray for those who stumble upon our blog posts that the words they read may touch their hearts, ignite their faith, and draw them closer to God.

We can pray for those who are hurting, lonely, or in need of encouragement so that they may find solace and healing through the messages we share.

Let us also make it a habit to pray for divine wisdom and discernment as we craft our content so that our words may be anointed and inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Through prayer, we invite God to work through us, using our blogs as vessels for His grace and truth. Let’s not forget to pray for unity among our online community, that love and respect may prevail in discussions and interactions.

Praying for our online audience as Christian bloggers allows us to serve as intercessors, bridging the gap between the digital realm and the divine. It demonstrates our genuine care and concern for those who engage with our content and reinforces our commitment to being vessels of God’s love and truth online.

All in all:

If God is prompting you as a Christian blogger to turn back to Him, listen and obey.

You may not understand what God is doing right now. The process may be scary because you may lose followers or a large income, but remember, obedience is better than sacrifice.

Trust God, know He has your best interests at heart, and start walking in your true calling as a blogger. Please remember to consistently build your blogging ministry on that which cannot be shaken because every other thing outside God is only temporary.
